An “s” as an addition to the company name REGA-TOP fundamentally changes the philosophy of our activities.
I will explain this in the following paragraph.
The company's name comes from the year it was founded in 1988, in this case “Rega” stands for irrigation. At that time, many gardens in this country were retrofitted with irrigation systems. Over the decades, this activity gradually faded into the background and the company increasingly focused on the new design and redesign, as well as the maintenance of gardens.
The pandemic caused a certain standstill from which something new could emerge. The need for physical and mental balance led me on long hikes in the South-West Alentejo and Costa Vicentina Natural Park, which stretches from Burgau along the western coast of Portugal to the southern Alentejo. Here you will find an almost endless variety of Mediterranean vegetation that can hardly be found anywhere else in Europe.
As supplementary literature, I had at my disposal the three outstanding works by Olivier Filippi, the pioneer and advocate of gardens without irrigation in southern climes.
The advance of climate change in 2020-2022 gave me further impetus to deepen this work, for the simple reason that there can be no ecologically and economically alternative to it.
It must have happened during a daydream or a hike that I noticed that such a small letter as an addition to the company name reflects the entire philosophy of our company's activities.
So REGA-TOP becomes the name REGA-Stop, and then the name becomes ONE again with the orientation of our way of working.
In 2022, with the support of the Society for Mediterranean Gardens in Portugal (MGAP), my employees underwent several days of training in order to do the right thing in everyday practice.
When redesigning beds, we are now increasingly foregoing the installation of irrigation, although the beauty of the beds does not suffer as a result.
